The next Cuba Baila! will be celebrated on April
21 and 22, 2007. This time, we will be dedicating
the celebration to a traditional popular party of the musical
island, “The Cuban Carnivals.”
You definitely will be amazed with the joyful sound of Cuban
Conga rhythm, and the colourful carnival's costumes.
As a main part of the event, we will be having our 4th
Annual International Rueda de Casino Competition and the Casino
dancing style contest for couples. This will be
the time to see some of the best dancers and dance companies
of the Cuban style, not only from Canada, the U.S.A., but from
even farther. High quality dancing, live music, great performances,
workshops of Rumba, Casino, and other Cuban styles of dancing
will be offered. All this and much more are the entertainment
options you will be enjoying during these days of celebration.

Rueda de Casino Dancing Competition:
The competition will be done in two rounds. In the first round of the competition teams will dance a routine already prepared with their own music. This music must to be Cuban Salsa and no more than 3 minutes. Music should be submitted to the organizer of the event by February 28.
In the second round, teams will improvise with the music played
by the DJ of the event. In this part of the competition, points
will be deducted in the case of repetitions of moves from the
previous routine. Moves like dame, enchufla and so on, are exclude
of this rule. This round will show the capacity of the teams to
adjust their calls to any music given. Cuban flavour in the routine
will gain additional points for the teams.
More details about the rules will be discussed with the teams and the judges prior to the competition.
- There will be a maximum of teams to compete, to be determined
by Dance Rueda Productions.
- There will be a $150 registration fee per Rueda team. The
fee includes free entry for all the performers on the team to
all the main evening events.
- Cuban style of dancing (Casino)from Cuba or Miami are highly
recommended. Other styles of salsa will be considered, as long
as they maintain the Rueda shape approx. 90% of the time. Other
formations accepted for short periods of time under the creativity
category.
- Teams could be as small as 2 couples to a maximum of 6 couples.
- Teams should dance on the first beat of the music.
- Costumes are not mandatory, but are recommended to enhance
visual presentation.
- Rueda's routines with combinations of other Cuban dances steps
like Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Son, Mambo, and so on, will also add
+ points to the final results.
Individual Couples Cuban Casino Style Salsa Competition:
In this category all couples will be dancing at the same time to the music chosen by the DJ. Then, some of the couples will be chosen to pass to the semi-finals round. From there, three couples will be chosen to go to the final round.
- There will be a maximum number of couples allowed to compete, to be determined by Dance Rueda Productions.
- The registration fee is $50 per couple. The fee includes
free entry for the couple to the main evening events.
- If a couple registered in this category is part of one of the teams, they will have to pay this separate registration fee, as they will be competing for individual prizes.
- Only Cuban Casino style salsa will be permitted in this category.
- Not lifts or acrobatics figures are allow in this category.
- Costumes are not mandatory, but are recommended to enhance visual presentation.
